Murdoch Scholarships APA, MURS and others
Applications for both of these scholarships close on October 31. You can apply even if you are an existing student. The scholarship will then be available for the remainder of your candidature. Clicke here to go to the Grad Centre website and download the application forms for scholarships. Current scholarship rates are 19,231 p.a. for both scholarships. These scholarships are tax exempt and consequently represent reasonable value.

Jason - Postgrad Scholarship Information

Westscheme Enterprise Partnership (MWEP)
The Murdoch Westscheme Enterprise partnership has been developed to enable students and the University to commercialise their research and protect their intellectual property.
MWEP will be offering its internship program again for 2006/07. We are looking for postgrads with Business/Law/ Science backgrounds who are interested in the space of technology commercialization and Intellectual Property. The successful interns will be offered real world work experience, including:
Market analysis, IP analysis, technology analysis, client liaison and networking, investment proposal and business plan preparation.
The vocation is not paid, but interns will be provided office space, internet access (laptop, pc or mac) as well as other intangible benefits. Successful candidates will be required to sit for a certification assessment at the end of the program. The potential exists for paid casual and contractual work within MWEP following certification.

Department of Health and Ageing – National Suicide Prevention Strategy
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: Applications are being sought from organisations for projects that enhance local suicide prevention activities across Australia, targeting people at risk of suicide and those affected by suicide. Funding will be provided in two categories
· Suicide Prevention Community Based Initiatives
Community based projects with between $100,000 and $500,000 (GST exclusive) per annum available per project until 30 June 2009
· Small Community Based Initiatives
Small community based projects for a maximum duration of one year. Funding for each project will be up to $500,000 (GST exclusive)

Department of Environment and Heritage – The National Reserve System
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: As part of the National Heritage Trust, the National Reserve System Programme operates to establish a representative national network of protected areas by providing funds to assist in the acquisition of suitable land.
Proposals funded under the National Reserve System Programme include:
· The purchase of high priority land for establishing a national park or privately owned and managed protected area.
· The establishment of a private protected area over high priority land already owned by your organisation or community.

Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet – Research support for Counter-terrorism
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: The research support for counter-terrorism funding programme commissions and delivers strategically focused research and development activities to enhanced national counter-terrorism capabilities.
Eligibility: You must have secured funding of at least 50% of the project costs and must not duplicate activities funded under another Australian Government programme.

The Department of Education, Science & Training delivers the International Science Linkages Competitive Grants. The next call for application will open on 7 August 2006 and will close on 1 September 2006. NHMRC – Palliative Care Research Grants
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: The palliative Care Research Program is a joint initiative between the National Health and Medical Research Council and the Department of Health and Ageing. The program is part of the Australian Government’s palliative Care in the Community initiative. Applications are invited for research projects that will inform one of the following four broad areas related to palliative care:
· Symptoms assessments and management in palliative care
· Families and caregiver support
· Psychosocial support, including bereavement and
· Models of care in palliation particularly in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in urban areas.
Eligibility: The NHMRC will only pay funds to an NHMRC registered Administering Institution. The NHMRC will recognise only one institution as the Administering Institution.
Amount awarded: Proposals for projects of up to three years duration with total budgets of up to $300,000 will be considered. A total of $1.8 Million will be available through this call for research.

National Breast Cancer Foundation – Collaborative Breast Cancer Research Grant Program 2007
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: The National Breast Cancer Research Grant Program is designed to foster wide collaboration between groups of investigators and pooling of knowledge, expertise and resources to enable larger scale or accelerated research programs into the prevention, causes, treatment or management of breast cancer. DAFF – Natural Resource Innovation Grants 2006-07
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: Applications are invited from eligible individuals, community groups or businesses engaging in Farming, Food, Aquaculture, Forest or related industries for the 2006-07 round of Natural Resources Innovation Grants. Selected projects may receive up to 50% of eligible project costs. Applications must be able to demonstrate that the project will deliver wider natural resource management benefits.
Eligibility: Funding is available through the NLP Natural Resource Innovation Grants to individuals, incorporated community and other “not-for-profit” groups or businesses with links to agricultural, food, aquacultural or forestry (or related) industries.
Amount Awarded: A total of $3million will be made available for grants. No upper limit has been placed upon individual project funding.

Australian Film Commission – Industry and Cultural Development
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: The Australian Film Commission operates as part of the Commonwealth Film Program to ensure the creation, availability and preservation of Australian screen content. The industry and Cultural Development program cultivates and assists the development and appreciation of Australian screen culture, locally and internationally.
ICD provides funding through four programs and each has two funding rounds per year:
National Touring Exhibition Fund roughly $406,648 to be split between 14 touring programs
Events and Activities Fund roughly $2,022,161 to be split between 34 organisations

Dairy Australia – Dairy R&D Postgraduate Scholarships and Study Award
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: Dairy Australia invites applications for postgraduate scholarships, commencing in 2007. The scholarships offered are for full-time study towards research degrees tenable in Australia and overseas. Scholarships are awarded for research contributing to technical areas relevant to dairy farming and dairy manufacturing operations. A wide variety of topics and disciplines are covered.

Community Road Safety Grants Program
Introduction to funding opportunity: The community Road Safety Grants Program provides funding for the development and delivery of community-based road safety projects. Grants are available for projects that are consistent with the strategies outlined in arriving safely, Road safety for Western Australia 2003-2007. Projects that focus upon behavioural change specifically related to speeding, drink driving, non-use of restraints and driver fatigue as major contributing factors in road crashes will be considered. As will projects that support the road safer systems approach through promotion and advocacy initiatives for safer roads, safer vehicles and safer speeds.
Eligibility: Organisations applying for funding must address the criteria in the format outlined in the application form
